Professional Degree Program Requirements
The professional degree program is designed for individuals who want in-depth study in their field beyond a master's degree, but who want to concentrate on applied subject material rather than on basic science. This post-master's program provides advanced study in preparation for pragmatic application and leads to the degree of Engineer or of Applied Scientist.
In addition to the requirements listed in the Graduate Programs Bulletin, the student plans and undertakes a six-credit-hour design project or prepares a comprehensive technical report demonstrating his ability to make independent use of the knowledge he has acquired.
The Department awards the Engineer professional degree and the Applied Scientist professional degree in the following areas of concentration:
- Aerospace Engineering
- Design of Mechanical Engineering Systems
- Fluid Mechanics, Thermal Sciences, and Energy
- Solid Mechanics and Materials Science
