Dr. Taeyoung Lee is a co-principal investigator of a multidisciplinary research team selected for the 2018 NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts Program, Phase I. In this project, titled “Marsbee - Swarm of Flapping Wing Flyers for Enhanced Mars Exploration,” researchers from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, GW, and Tokyo University (Japan) will investigate the feasibility of utilizing flapping wing, micro unmanned aerial vehicles as a reconfigurable sensor network in the Martian environment. Dr. Lee will be in charge of constructing nonlinear control systems and exploration schemes for 3D topographic mapping. Phase I of the project is nine months and has a budget of $125,000.
