M. Ashraf Imam

Professor M. Ashraf Imam is a research professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.  Prior to joining GW, he was a member of the senior research staff in the Materials Science and Technology Division at the Naval Research Laboratory, where he served as a team leader in pursuing basic research on material structure-property relationship with emphasis on titanium alloy development and kinetics of transformation in solid phase.  Professor Imam’s research focuses on the structure-property relationship of materials with emphasis on light metals such as Ti, Al, and Mg.

Professor Imam has more than 230 publications to his name, has edited more than 10 books, and holds more than 10 patents.  He is a Fellow of the American Society for Metals, International; is a member of the Minerals, Metals & Materials Society; and is a recipient of the George Kimbell Burgess Award.
